Character: riku
Canon: kingdom hearts, post melody of memory.
Age: somewhere between 17 and 18.
Background Information: kh lore is like war and peace
Personality:
Riku's changed tremendously through the series. At first, he was a cocky, sarcastic kid that knew he was talented and had a ravenous desire to get off their island and see adventure. It's why he essentially made a deal with the devil to embrace the darkness and drag their whole island down with it. He was wildly jealous of Sora's ability to use the keyblade and new friends, which Maleficent and later Ansem used to corrupt his heart for the darkness even further.
He very much was a kid who had no idea what he was getting himself into. Later, he realized what he'd done and sacrificed himself to save Sora and close the door to darkness.
The next year was most likely the worst year of his life. He grappled with Ansem, with the darkness inside of him, and came out on the other side. While grappling with Ansem he fought his own insecurities on who he'd become -- a person with darkness inside of him that he couldn't show to the people he loved anymore because of what he'd done. It was through Mickey that he remembered his own humanity and succumb completely to the darkness, and came out on the other side.
He still didn't like himself, though. After Chain of Memories and before and during most of Kingdom Hearts 2, he threw his entire being, literally, into sacrificing himself for Sora again. While Sora was getting his memories back, Riku was the one who was fighting for everything to stay together so that his best friend would wake up. He fought Xion and Roxas, with the latter making him use the ability of darkness again and lose his body to Ansem. After Sora woke up, he helped him in small ways from the shadows, thinking his best friend would reject him if he saw him the way he was.
That is, until Kairi caught him. She accepted Riku as he was, and brought him back to Sora. It was the acceptance of his two best friends that helped him overcome the darkness once and for all -- and help use it as a tool to fight against it.
So what hadn't changed about Riku? For one, his sarcasm and cockiness made it through Disney hell and back with him. He's got a smart mouth, and takes the opportunities he gets to make sarcastic comments and one liners to things that's very much trying to kill him. He believes that even though he's not necessarily better than Sora, he's still better than most of the villains he faces, so he's not afraid to be scathing with his remarks towards them. Even to Ansem, who knew his own mind as well as he knew his own, Riku still tried to portray to him a teen that wasn't bothered and could beat him at any given chance.
He also still cares fiercely for his friends, Sora and Kairi. Part of his whole quest in Kingdom Hearts 1 was to "wake up" Kairi after she lost her heart -- both to gloat over Sora that he'd done it before him, and also because Kairi is one of his best friends. Riku's got a weakness of sorts for her, listening to her in the World That Never Was when she calls out to him and stops him instead of just leaving as he might've done with Sora. Seeing to her safety and wellbeing is just as important to him as it is to make sure Sora is safe. After they travel back to the islands, he shows a looseness and friendship (obviously) to them that he doesn't share with anyone else. His smiles come easier to them, and he seems to relax around them.
Sora, however, is far more difficult to keep in one piece. While Riku would likely sell his soul and life to ensure Kairi's safety, he does it for sure for Sora in almost every game. Riku proves time and time again that he will sacrifice anything to ensure that Sora makes it back to the islands to Kairi with or without him. They share a bond that Riku doesn't quite have with Kairi, but it's more than likely the knowledge of what exactly both boys have been through that forges it. They're two halves of the same coin, and by the time of Dream Drop Distance and Kingdom Hearts 3 they can sense each other if they try hard enough and can combine their powers with no words to get things done. It's mentioned in some of the extra materials between KH3 and Melody of Memory that Riku has been searching to the brink of exhaustion after Sora's disappearance and because of their bond it's him -- not Kairi -- who will ultimately help him find Sora again.
That being said, he cares for other people outside of them. On first meeting, he might be a little aloof to some people, but he will protect others as needed. In Dream Drop Distance we see that as he travels the worlds, not only to reunite with Sora, but to help those people in those worlds. He also promises to help Namine in Chain of Memories for her assistance in putting Sora's heart back together, and comes back to get her at the end of KH3 when she gains a body.
While Riku seems to be aloof to some people, it's mostly that he internalizes a lot of his emotions. While he may be scared, he doesn't show fear. It comes to the aforementioned front of the cocky and sarcastic teen -- if something is trying to intimidate him, he brushes it off. If something is upsetting to him, he bottles it up. Sora leaving to go find Kairi at the end of KH3 upset Riku, and there's a moment where he pauses to compose himself, but he lets Sora go, knowing it needed to be done. It's not only another way he puts others before himself (to not let them see how affected he is by situations), but a way to keep his head in situations where some of his other friends would be swayed by their emotions.
So while Riku's changed and matured into the boy we see today, there's some of his core aspects that haven't and probably never will change. His sarcasm and his care for his friends, for one. His curiosity about the outside world as well, though it's changed in the severity of it (he isn't about to go throw anyone into Darkness again to satiate his curiosity). But what has changed is the fact that he grows into a more stable and clear headed person, who is coming more to grips with who he is. While there will always probably be a part of him that doesn't like himself, he's learned to push all of that aside for his friends and for the good of the universe he lives in. He's learned to be the "rock" in every situation with his keyblade mastery, a person that people will turn to when they need help. A lot of this has come from his own sheer will and stubbornness, but he wouldn't have made it completely without Kairi, Sora, and Mickey.
Abilities & Inventory: here
all Riku will be bringing is himself, the clothes on his back, and his keyblade.
Suitability & Plans: Riku's a character that i normally wouldn't play or am intimidated of playing, and i want to try to branch out of my comfort zone a little bit. The interactions i've been getting already on the TDM with him have been good, and i think that i could actually play a character like this!
Otherwise, i think Riku needs a little bit of a break. Even though song is still a little crazy, it's otherwise not too bad after being in a constant war for 3 straight years. i'd like to explore what kind of CR he could get as well as explore what would happen if everything wasn't falling to pieces 24/7 with him. he's still going to keep training of course and he would probably be a good resource for magical or weapons training.
Test Drive Sample: beep
Questions: so i was at work today and i was thinking about dreamotion and idk if it might've already been asked but could dreamotion be able to look something like this?
examples:

basically kind of like a magical parkour lmao. half of the reason why i ask is because of the similarities of the names (this is flowmotion lol) and the other half is just because i think it'd be fun to play around with if it's possible! obviously if it's possible i wouldn't have him be a pro at it immediately but it was just something i was thinking about!
