hey riku, if we can see stars that are super far away does that mean we see better at night than we do in the daytime?
you know! we can see stars really brightly at night time but we can't see them at all during the day!

it's just the absence of light that makes it obvious. if it weren't for light, we wouldn't be able to see anything at all in the darkness.

[Riku takes the box and opens it when he gets home, then reads the note. his eyebrows raise a little -- and then he looks at the chocolates. even though there had never really been anything quite this fancy back in the islands, he does remember Kairi and Sora fawning over their chocolate. Riku's not exactly the biggest sweets person, so he's glad that she didn't give him more, but the sentiment was so kind.
he walks into his home, closing the door behind him as he sets the box on a nearby table. he'd figure Sora would like the extra sweets, of course, though he might try a bit of one himself.

[When they were little and growing up Sora always made a habit of giving both Riku and Kairi chocolates and a little card on Valentine's day. Back when he was innocent enough to not really understand that it was a day about love but more that he just loved to give the two of them chocolates to see them smile. He always loved giving Riku his little box wrapped up with too much tape and awkwardly folded at the corners. Riku would always tease him but Sora always got this tiny little smile that Sora would think was just for him.
Now that he's missed a few years of chocolates in between? It's only fair that Sora sneaks in a bit more to make up for it. About halfway through the day Riku might find himself with a little delivery. A box (wrapped much more neatly) with a collection of salty chocolate pretzels inside as well as a four-pack of chocolate cupcakes.]

As you’re all-too aware, I had been without my heart for a significant time. Some emotions are entirely new to me.
My question is two part.
1) How does one know what they’re feeling is (in colloquial terms) a “crush”
and
2) What does one do about it?

1) You have been in possession of your heart through most of your adolescent development into adulthood;
2) You are an intelligent and mature individual who is not prone to flights of fancy while …
3) You act on your feelings when it’s important to you and helps those you consider friends;
and lastly
4) You have proven track record of having a crush and even stronger feelings still.
… I don’t believe I’m mistaken, but if you don’t feel prepared to tackle this sort of topic, I understand. It’s a bit embarrassing, though I assure you, it has not been easy for me to ask this.

so... having a crush is kind of like having a very close friend. you want to spend all the time in the world with them, and you wanna protect them no matter what. it doesn't have to be a physical protection -- you don't want to see them get mentally or emotionally hurt, either. they're the one person you cherish more than anyone else.
